about trio

who we are

Trio is a Brazilian tourism company that offers intimate and personal experiences of Rio de Janeiro that are outside the standard tour offerings. We have two main tour types- Pedicab Tours and Mountain Bike Tours.

Our pedicab tours are more focused on the history, architecture and culture in Rio's city centre, while our bicycle tours take in the spectacular forest roads around the Christ the Redeemer statue in the world's biggest urban rainforest.

Trio aims to provide our tours as sustainably as possible. We use only zero emission bicycles and electric pedicabs with on-board solar charging.

We also provide an on-demand short trip service in the port area of Rio de Janeiro.

Trio was founded by Michael Linke, an Australian social entrepreneur based in Rio de Janeiro since 2011. Michael is also the founder of the Bicycling Empowerment Network Namibia, a non-profit that has delivered 70,000 bicycles to improve mobility for people throughout Namibia and other African countries.

Social responsibility

Trio, together with Bicycles for Humanity (Bicicletas Para a Humanidade) refurbishes donated bicycles and donates them to refugees and residents of the Providencia favela, the oldest favela in Brazil.

Trio also takes its environmental impact seriously. Although our bicycles and pedicabs cause no pollution while in use, the lithium batteries that power our pedicabs do have an environmental cost, from mining the materials used in their construction through to their disposal.

We take care to use high quality cells, battery management systems and chargers to guarantee that we get the maxiumum use out of each battery. At the end of their useful lives, we disassemble and send the components of our battery packs for recycling.
